How to Deliver a Powerful Message

By James Chase

I teach classes on public speaking, and the Law of Cause and Effect is an important law of success to understand if a speaker is going to be effective with his or her listeners. This law, according to Ralph Waldo Emerson, is the law of laws, because while so much focus seems to be put on the Law of Vibration where we initiate the creative process, it is the Law of Cause and Effect that carries out the manifestation process.

Indeed, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” In essence, what you give is what you get.

What makes the process work in the most effective way is when our thoughts and actions work together. Our desired results are realized more naturally. When it comes to public speaking, a clearly identified desired impact and the way we carry it out can translate into a more effective speech. On the other hand, if our focus is on the fear of getting up in front of an audience, the result of that cause will be realized just as quickly, and our speech will not be as effective as it could be.

Your thoughts and actions must work in harmony with one another to get the desired effect. Your desired effect comes from purpose. What is your ultimate purpose? How do you want the listener to feel at the end of the presentation? Can you imagine your audience feeling that way?

A clear and intentional purpose is the key to giving an effective speech. Purpose is one of the first principles of public speaking. To understand this essential element, listen and analyze one of the best speeches ever delivered: Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Over half a century later, it still has an effect on the public consciousness. This speech started with a purpose, and is what even now keeps his devoted followers on track.

Having a clear and passionate purpose is always the beginning of a great message, and from there, you can trust The Law of Cause and Effect to inspire your mind in ways that will help you most effectively carry it out.
