The Balancing Power of the Law of Polarity

By Tammy Graham

There is an opposite (or opposition) in all things. There are two sides to every coin, a heads and tails, they are equal and opposite poles (extremes) of the same thing, as are the temperatures of hot and cold; emotions of love and hate; feelings of pain and euphoria etc.

When something we perceive as bad occurs, we can know that in it there is potential for an equal degree of good. If something is just a little bad, like bumping your head, there is just a little good in it. If it’s catastrophic like experiencing a natural disaster, get excited because there is the potential, if we choose to find it, for that much good! That is how we can use this law to stay on a high vibration and find the blessings that will come out of our opposition.

Just because there are blessings within every challenge does not mean that we still don’t have to face the challenge. We do. Facing it with your eye on the blessings makes the challenge so much more bearable. I prefer giving birth drug-free with the assistance of a midwife and doula. I always get very nervous before the baby’s due date because I know of the mental and physical anguish I’ll soon be experiencing.

There is the mental task of remaining in control, relaxed and focused to allow my body to do what it needs to; my emotions going up and down, crying in exhaustion, feelings of excitement for my newborn child; back pain, abdominal cramping, hot and cold flashes, burning as the head crowns, body-racking pain of giving birth.

While I’m experiencing these sensations and emotions I am focused on the end result, a new child, a perfect gift fresh from heaven that I’ve looked forward to having for many months. I focus on how euphoric I feel after giving birth. Then I feel powerful, self confident, like I can conquer the world, do anything I want! I feel like running in circles, climbing the tallest mountain, the feeling and joy I have is indescribable. The only time I have felt like that is after giving birth and experiencing all those pains and emotions.

The Law of Polarity creates balance. I would not be willing to experience the pains of childbirth and all the suffering that accompanies it if there was no good within or on the other side of that suffering, with no euphoric feeling, it would have been a torturous and bitter experience. Because I know of the good within the suffering that is equal and of opposite degree to what I suffered, I am happy to do it.

1st Nephi verse 11 of the Book of Mormon states, ” For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility.”

In short, The Law of Polarity is in play with everything from relationships, to finances, to weather, and emotions. I believe it was the band Metallica that has a song called “Every rose has it’s thorn.” Let us focus on the roses whenever we find ourselves surrounded by or dealing with the thorns.
