An Equal Amount of Good and Bad

By Denise Webster

The Law of Polarity states “Everything has an opposite. A bad situation is equally good. Look for the good, and more good will be on its way.” I have always known this law exists, but it took me awhile to REALLY understand it. I love the Law of Polarity or Law of Opposition! The great news about the Law of Polarity is that it is EQUAL.

Do you get that? EQUAL! For all the bad you may feel like you are going through, there is an equal amount of good! Where is the good? It is there! Trust me! Just start looking for the positive-the silver lining, if you will. Or at least express gratitude for ANYTHING in your life. Do you have a great companion? Good kids? A home? A job? A car? Then you are blessed. You have something to be grateful for.

I have had a lot of experience with this law. Some I recognized even before I began learning about these laws. A few years ago, we were going through a real personal struggle in our family. It caused a lot of pain and confusion. Although things seemed dark and difficult, we chose to think on a different level. It wasn’t easy. We tried to be cheerful and positive even though inside we were agonizing. We tried very hard to find the good. Thankfully, it eventually began to come.

We knew that there was an answer to these problems, we just needed to find it. We were watching a movie and it explained that no matter what problems you may have in your life, it all can be changed with ONE THOUGHT. This was the answer I had been looking for. Finding these “laws” were the answer to many a prayer.

Albert Einstein said, “The significant problems we face in life cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” The knowledge we have gained through these “laws” helped us through the difficult times, have given us hope, and have taken us to a new level of thinking. We have come through our struggles and have learned so much because of them.

The good we found in those dark times was that we “came to know God through our adversity.” (Francis Webster, “Angels & Handcarts”) I can truly say now that our life has been blessed through our trials.

Another wonderful thing that the Law of Polarity has helped me with is peace in a difficult world. I have always been taught that the “Last Days” would be difficult times on the earth. One only need watch the news to feel the sadness and despair of some of the wickedness going on. I have wondered how I will survive or help my kids survive during such tumultuous times. I have prayed for peace and knowledge. I have read the scriptures and have followed the counsel of our church leaders to get food storage and be prepared from a physical stand point. That has brought me a great amount of peace.

One day, while thinking about this law, I realized that because of the Law of Polarity, for all the wickedness and bad in the world, there had to be an EQUAL amount of good— good people, good things happening. I just needed to focus on that. I am already surrounded by good people, and I know there are a lot more out there.

All over the world there are good people who are trying to live good lives and teach their kids good, too. As I began to focus on that, peace came into my heart. I now know that we will be fine during these difficult times because God is abundant. He wants to bless us. He has surrounded us with so much good-good people, good books, and the beauties of nature to remind us that all is well and that good will prevail.
