Assume that Everyone Loves You

By Christy Lee

For many years, I felt like I was out of control with my eating, and I was sure that other people were thinking the same thing when they looked at me.  This self doubt and fear of the expectations of others kept me stuck for so many years.  The crazy thing was it wasn’t even true!  It was just a thought that I had so many times that my subconscious mind formed a program and started playing it over and over.  People weren’t thinking I was out of control.  If they were, it was because they had their own programs of insecurity that they were running in their own mind that had nothing to do with me. The problem was I didn’t study how the mind works or the power of thought until years later.

Since I didn’t know anything about these programs that I was running in my mind,

or that I had the ability to change them, I  felt stuck

Then one day I was visiting with a friend of mine who was, at the time, in her mid seventies.  Her husband had recently passed away from cancer and she was just starting Chemotherapy herself.  She had raised 12 kids and had a ton of grand kids and had experienced a lot of life! I knew that she knew what hard felt like. I asked her how she could seem so happy all the time with all of the trials that she has had to endure. Her response surprised me. Now more than 15 years later, it is still some of the best advice I have ever received.  She simply said, “I just assume that everyone loves me!”

What?!?!  You can do that? “ But what if people don’t?” I asked her.   Her response was, “I don’t worry about the ones that don’t.”  I had no idea what to do with this advice at first, but I thought about it a lot. I told myself the phrase over and over, but I didn’t believe it.  I knew that it really worked for her, and so I kept trying.  I felt like I was just pretending, but I kept trying.

I started to notice that the more I told myself that everyone loved me, the easier it was to be in social settings and to sit by and talk to people that I didn’t know very well.   I was even able to join an aerobics class that I loved and later taught.  I really was getting less and less worried about what other people thought of me.

You might be wondering, “What in the world does this have to do with creating better health in my life?” My answer is that it has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH IT!  It will take faith to create the health that you are wanting.  Faith in God that He will lead and guide you through each step of the process. Faith in yourself that you can listen for and act on inspirations that you receive from Him.  In order to do this, you are going to need to practice pushing away doubt and fear.  God wants to bless you with the health that you desire, but when you are full of self doubt and fear of what others are thinking of you, you are literally blocking the help that He is trying to send, because Faith and Fear cannot occupy the same space at the same time. The Law of Perpetual Transmutation says  that circumstances and things are perpetually coming or going according to your thoughts (Mindset Mastery, by Trevon and Leslie Householder, p.11)

First, decide what you want your health to look like and ask God for His help in creating it.   This takes faith. This takes trust.  Remember it has nothing to do with anyone else, so no comparing or worrying about what others expect of you.  It is so important to write down your vision statement.  Write it as though it has already happened, and make sure to express gratitude in your statement for how it feels to have the kind of health that you desire.  Choose a date when you hope to have accomplished your vision and write it at the top of your statement.  This is what Leslie Householder calls “staking your claim.”  After you have written it down, post it where you can see it and read it multiple times a day.  Let yourself feel gratitude for what you will feel when you have the health that you desire. Remember that you are creating the life that you want and not competing with anyone else.  This is easier to do when you assume that everyone loves you, and wants what’s best for you, and you don’t worry about the ones that don’t.
