For a year and a half my husband and I had been remodeling our home and making it more functional for our family and our lifestyle. In the process of this major renovation, we were left with an unfunctional bit of space by our back door and laundry room. Previously it had been a desk alcove off the kitchen/family room.
What we wanted was to create shelves in the back deep side space and then some sort of bench, shoe shelf and coat rack in the rest of it. We talked about it off and on but never would commit to anything or make a decision. My husband built sliding shelves in the deep recess part but the shallow open space when walking in from the back door was still open. Needing something there and not knowing about the laws I ended up placing a little shoe rack there. It looked terrible, I hated it and we had nowhere to hang jackets. It stayed this way for almost a year. Unbeknownst to me, I had filled the space and the need for us to do something had dissipated.
Upon learning about Nature Abhorring a Vacuum which is that you make room for the thing you desire by letting go of that which you do not appreciate or use. Give it away with a giving, charitable heart, and let the Universe compensate you. This along with lessons in the Mindset Mastery class about Being Clear About What You Want I realized that I needed to do something about this space. The first thing I did was remove the shoe rack.
For our midterm I made it my inconsequential goal that I was going to get very clear on what I wanted this space to look and feel like. This space was going to be perfect. Without telling my husband I started visualizing and looking online for inspiration of what I wanted there. I wrote it all down and even bookmarked pictures of ideas I liked. The following weekend out of the blue my husband said to me, “Let’s finish these shelves and build a coat tree.” I showed him my ideas and he built exactly what I wanted.
We had all the materials we needed to complete the project already at our home from the remodel we had completed except for the shiplap. The bench was created out of part of our old kitchen cabinets. My husband even made the bench removable in case we need to get to the deep shelves at the side. I just need to touch up a few parts with paint but it’s perfect and better than I had imagined. Now I find myself smiling when I walk in the back door.
These laws truly do work. Put them to the test. I think often of the scripture in Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. These laws are true, and He is just waiting for us to prove Him, to trust Him, to come to Him believing that we will receive, and we shall stand all amazed at the love He has for us time and time again.
