There is power in optimism. It is clear when I hear hope sung and it invigorates my heart. It is clear when I hear despair in lyrics that my heart sinks. I encourage you to test it out. The original lyrics to the song “The Best is Yet to Come” by the band Sheppard are mediocre. The tune is catchy and you might just miss the fact that the ideas in the original lyrics don’t connect into any kind of meaningful message. Next, we’ll listen to the song while reading more optimistic lyrics.
Believe in miracles, because you are reading one right now. I have very little musical training. I quit piano lessons when I was in the third grade. I can sing but often I’m not singing exactly the right note. I do enjoy writing and I can feel the power in these words. I hope they ring true for you too. I give all the credit to God whose spark it was to start this project. He let me struggle with the rhyme and rhythm and then when I finished, He told me where it could be better. This is His song.
The Best is Yet to Come
Guide me to a different place
Where joy is not illusion based
Fear is just a word they can’t define
Ideas create the happiness
Before it even comes to pass
It’s almost if tomorrow is today
To live it all today in joy
Does not deny the pain
I choose to find another way to see
The seeds of growth are hidden
in the trials that we face
And with our thoughts we grant the seed a place
Help me understand the best is yet to come
Lift my thoughts to see
How the prize is won
‘Cause YES a way exists I’ll gain what I’ve begun
Though it’s darkest right before the sun
I hold a great idea in mind
And trust by law that I will find
It grows into the thing that I desire
By my intention
And intervention
(Oh) from heaven’s help encouraging my soul
Help me understand the best is yet to come
Lift my thoughts to see
How the prize is won
‘Cause YES a way exists; I’ll gain what I’ve begun
Though it’s darkest right before the sun
And if I ever turn the other way
Help me hold the seed of faith another day!
Cause I’ve been there before
I’ve been a soldier in this war
If I take it in my stride
I’m gonna see the other side
Just breathe, breathe
‘Cause everything I need
Is just an idea away
Help me understand the best is yet to come
Lift my thoughts to see
How the prize is won
‘Cause YES a way exists; I’ll gain what I’ve begun
Though it’s darkest right before the sun
