Create space for greater good in your life

By Amanda Permann

I’ve always considered myself a fairly clean person, but over time, life happens, and my bedroom tends to become the place where things pile up—things I intend to deal with “later.” As a result, my room hasn’t felt peaceful or beautiful for a while. Instead, it felt cluttered, crowded, and overwhelming, which affected how I felt internally. When my surroundings are out of order, I feel out of order too—frustrated, scattered, and mentally blocked.

The clutter in my room had accumulated over time: piles of papers (some mine, some my husband’s), Christmas cards, large pictures I intended to hang up, books, and numerous notebooks I needed to go through. These were all things I had good intentions to deal with, but I kept pushing them off with thoughts like, “It’s a big project,” “It will take too long,” or “I’ll get to it when I’m less tired.” I allowed those thoughts to guide my actions, or lack thereof.

But the reality was that this clutter was creating a mental and physical block. I wasn’t just putting things off; I was holding onto things that no longer served me, and it was preventing me from creating a space that felt peaceful and inspiring. According to the Vacuum Law of Prosperity, in order to invite new energy and abundance into our lives, we first need to clear out what no longer serves us. So when I was given this decluttering project, it felt like the perfect opportunity to apply that principle and create space for something new.

I started by tackling the piles, sorting through papers, throwing away what I didn’t need, giving away things that no longer fit my life, and organizing what I chose to keep. The process wasn’t easy, and it actually seemed like I was making a bigger mess before it got better. But as I decluttered, I could feel space opening up—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. It reminded me of the principle that to receive more good, we must first release the old.

One task led to another—much like in the story “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” As I worked on my room, I was inspired to reorganize a book closet to make space for the books that held meaning for me. From there, I moved on to washing the lights, cleaning the floorboards, windows, and mirrors, and finally vacuuming the floors. Little by little, I put everything back in its rightful place. By clearing away the clutter, I was creating a vacuum that allowed beauty, peace, and a fresh sense of order to flow in.

The result was a room that felt completely transformed—more beautiful, more peaceful, and far more aligned with the energy I wanted in my life. I now had a quiet space to think, read, and rest, which in turn made the whole house feel lighter and more positive. My family even noticed and commented on how nice it looked. The shift was undeniable, as the process of clearing out the old made way for fresh, new energy to come in.

Interestingly, while I was working on my bedroom, I had another goal in mind: updating our basement. The project involved repairs, painting, new lighting, carpeting, and new furniture—a task that felt too overwhelming for me to handle alone. I could sense that my husband also felt burdened by the size of the project.

But, as I made space in our bedroom and cleared out the clutter, something shifted. One day, out of the blue, I heard my husband mention to his mother that he was planning to help me with the basement renovation. I was pleasantly surprised. I believe that by clearing out the old energy in our bedroom, I not only created a peaceful space for myself, but also for my husband, reducing the overwhelm and creating room for new support, ideas, and solutions.

Decluttering wasn’t just about making my room look clean—it was about creating space for new opportunities, peace, and prosperity to flow into my life. The Vacuum Law of Prosperity teaches that when we let go of what no longer serves us, we create space for something better to take its place. This process not only lifted the energy in my home but also opened the door to unexpected help and renewed clarity for my next steps.
