Amazing Connections Lead Us On Our Path

By Barb Bergman

At the end of 2017 my husband and I had recently become empty nesters after living in Kennewick, WA for the last 9.5 years. Scott was offered a job at another rural hospital, this time in Idaho. We down-sized, packed everything up and moved to Soda Springs, Idaho into an 80’s style, tiny 3-bedroom rental and put the rest of what we owned in a storage unit. We settled into a very different routine in a small town and started to make plans to build a home a few minutes outside of town. It is very hard to get a builder and workers in and near Soda Springs as most are working on projects in Pocatello, Idaho or Logan, Utah. We bought a small 1 acre property less than 10 minutes out of town, drew up house plans, and dug a well but it was looking like we could not build in 2018 before the snow would fly. Obstacle after obstacle came surrounding building a house. We decided to wait til spring.

We thought we were where we supposed to be. We made friends in our church, I joined the town book group, I went regularly to work on genealogy at the local family history center, I exercised a few mornings a week with ladies at the church gym and also went to the local small gym – they just barely started to offer a few group fitness classes (my jam!). I started making a couple of quilts for my one grandchild and soon after my daughter announced she was pregnant so time to make another. I had a lot of time on my hands but have always been one to keep active and busy.

In Kennewick, WA I had been actively sharing/selling Doterra oils part time but was not having a lot of interest in Soda Springs. Out of the blue a friend and neighbor from 17 years previous, when we both had young kids and lived in West Jordan, Utah reconnected with me on Facebook. She had moved to Montana and soon after that I had moved to Tennessee so it had been years since we had any interaction. She started telling me about “juicing in a pouch” and other bioavailable supplements, even an amazing opportunity. I was skeptical but when I was visiting my daughter in Sandy, Utah I went to visit this friend who had moved back to West Jordan, Utah where we first met. She invited me to come look at the products, opportunity and community. I started working with a large group of women in particular and I loved everything about what I was learning, teaching and the lives that were impacted. Personal development was a high priority and it felt like a continuation of a journey I had started with some mentorship from some Doterra leaders, and also attending many of Kirk Duncan’s event the past 5 years.

Fast forward and my husband did not feel the hospital was the best fit for him and we discussed that he was going to create an LLC and be a traveling CRNA – independent contractor. There are several agencies that connect a person to work in other states 2 weeks on 2 weeks off or even a month at a time. I told him if he was going to travel I wanted to live closer to our kids in Utah. When we left Utah in 2004 he said he didn’t want to go back and live there again but now we both felt that was the right decision. He said he thought all this needed to happen for him to agree to go back, God has a sense of humor. Thankfully he had a long term contract in place when Covid hit. We had just moved into our house in Utah weeks before things started to shut down in March/April 2020 but we were ok financially. And sometimes I would fly and stay with him for a week or two. Mostly I stayed busy with my growing business and with the grandkids and a calling in church.

Many, many lessons, learnings, challenges and joys in the last 5 years. And most recently finding growth and joy in the Rare Faith community.
