What if we could trust God?

God watches over me and you. What if we could trust that?

The following comes from a reader, Catherine Dagsland. It inspired me! With her permission I’m sharing it with you:

“I was already nervous about making a 12 hour drive with kids, without another adult to help me. I prepared, I had my oil changed, tires checked.

“We left early, planning for potty breaks but hoping for an early arrival. And then, in nowhere, Utah, the flat tire. Really flat.

“Tears. I called AAA, they said help would come in an hour. I closed my eyes for a minute. Wondering why. Then, attempting a smile, I told my children we were going to wait for an hour on the shoulder of the freeway, with semis going past us, downhill, at 80 mph.

“Safe definitely didn’t describe my emotional state. In a moment of inspiration, I asked my 9 year old if he would pray that someone would come help us soon. And he prayed. And he didn’t say “soon.” He calmly asked God to send someone to come and fix our tire in 20 minutes. I silently laughed… and at the same time wondered how that would be possible.

“But then I heard a silent reminder to “Keep calm and watch what happens.” (Thank you Leslie Householder)

“So we waited. I tried my best to trust. We got out the spare tire and waited. And amazingly, after 20 minutes, the nicest man stopped and changed my tire. We still had to detour to go purchase a new tire, which is it’s own story. But as I silently wondered why I needed that experience, when I just really wanted/thought I needed to arrive earlier, I heard a voice tell me so clearly: ‘Because more than getting to Oregon before dark, you needed to know that God is watching over you and your family.’

“Tears. So much gratitude. This summer has been filled with so much, and I didn’t know I needed this reminder. I have had multiple experiences this summer that have all reminded me:

“I am being watched over. And so are you. ❤️

“I still have so many unanswered questions, so many unknowns, and I know you do, too. Let’s choose love. Let’s trust, as a child, that we are being watched over. And let’s watch out for each other. Be the angel that someone needs today.” – Catherine Dagsland

Cathrine’s message reminds me of one of my favorite songs:

Sparrows by Jason Gray

You can’t add a single day by worrying
You’ll worry your life away
Oh don’t worry your life away

You can’t change a single thing by freaking out
It’s just gonna close you in
Oh don’t let the trouble win

You may feel alone
But you’re not on your own

If He can hold the world He can hold this moment
Not a field or flower escapes His notice
Oh even the sparrow
Knows He holds tomorrow

Lean in and it’s hard to miss
Everything can change
When you make it His

Oh He wants to carry it
Carefree in the care of God
When you let it go
You’ll find that He’s enough
Oh you never leave His love
You don’t walk alone

If He can hold the world He can hold this moment
Not a field or flower escapes His notice
Oh even the sparrow
Knows He holds tomorrow

There’s not a single star that’s out of place
There’s nothing broken He can’t remake
If you long for hope when you’re afraid
Oh look at the sparrow
Look at the sparrow

If He can hold the world He can hold this moment
Not a field or flower escapes His notice
Oh even the sparrow
Knows He holds tomorrow
Even the sparrow knows
He holds tomorrow

  1. Thank you so much for sharing my story. I hadn’t heard that song before and it really does go perfectly with this story, and also with the other things happening in my life during this time.
Any time I started to worry, I felt this whisper into my mind – If God could watch over me during the flat tire incident, then of course he was also watching over me and my family. Keep calm and watch what happens.

“If he can hold the world, he can hold this moment.” So perfectly said!
