Think Prosperity and Still Live Within Your Means

Dear Leslie:

We have a quick question for you. We have been intrigued and energized by the Bob Proctor Success Puzzle tapes we recently purchased from you. In combination with your Jackrabbit Factor and Hidden Treasures books, they have really helped us to understand the laws of financial success. However, we have an unresolved question that has arisen. On one of the tapes, Bob Proctor suggests that if someone would like to afford and buy a house of their liking, they should just go buy it, then the means will come for them to afford it. We may misunderstand what he is saying, but this is the message we have taken from his statement.

Currently, we find ourselves in this very situation. We feel a need to move to a new location and a larger home, but we frankly can’t afford it. We have shopped around and have found a home that is an excellent buy, but it is still beyond our reach. We are working on additional sources of income (our rabbits), but they are taking some time to develop. We feel that to be financially prudent, we should be able to afford the house payments on our current base income and let any additional income be used for some of the other good things in life.

Here is the question. We’ve been advised to only purchase a modest home that we can afford and that we should live within our means. Not that we shouldn’t increase our means, but that at any given time, we should live within our current means.

Based on your experience and philosophy, would you recommend that a family first develop the means, then buy the home of their liking, or buy the home of their liking first, which is beyond their current means, then allow additional means to present themselves? The latter seems to contradict the leaders of the Church, but you may have an insight that we have overlooked.

Thank you so much for the excellent resources you have provided and thank you for any insights you can provide regarding our question.

Sincerely, T and J

My response:

First of all, always live within your means.

Never make a purchase based on an expectation that you will somehow increase your means to cover the obligation. If the way is already identified, that’s not as risky, but still, be wise.

There is a time and a season for everything, and in my experience there was a time for us to slow down and lay a better financial foundation, (even while people all around us were getting all the things we desperately wanted for ourselves), and there was a time for us to reap the benefits and enjoy an increased measure of prosperity.

These seasons are cyclical.

The concepts I learned helped me believe that one day the prosperity would happen for us, and gave me the courage to believe it was actually okay to reap a few benefits when the season for the harvest finally came. Without the principles, I would have been too afraid to receive them.

This is why it’s so important to rely on personal inspiration to get the timing right. There are different times to put money to different purposes.

At a time when we were solidly bent on putting all the money we had into the purchase of our home so that it would have no mortgage, we were stopped at every turn until we finally considered the possibility that there was something else we were supposed to do with that money.

Once we finally started to listen again, we felt directed (against our comfort level) to get a larger home (so that we could finally settle down and focus on other things) and only put half of our money into it, leaving us with a mortgage. The mortgage payment was well within our means, but this choice was much less comfortable than the idea of having no mortgage at all.

To proceed with getting a mortgage was counter to what we originally thought was best, and we couldn’t understand the reason until more than 6 months later, when we realized that the money needed to be liquid so that we could publish the book ourselves, something that benefited us in ways we never could have predicted.

I can’t directly counsel someone to do half the stuff we’ve done, because timing, purpose, and direction will be different for everyone on each person’s path. The only real security lies in gathering all the wisdom you can, making the wisest choice you know, and then seeing if you can get the peaceful assurance – your own personal revelation – that you’re on the right track.

Some of the things we’ve done might appear irresponsible and foolish from the outside looking in, and we would never publish half of it. The main key is to do your research and then trust your own instincts. With a good understanding of general guidelines, if you do something completely outrageous, you are consciously aware of what you’re doing and why, and can move forward with an assurance that you’ve made the right choice for you.

Bottom line, the principles I teach are there to help a person overcome the fear of following the right inner voice. They are not there to help a person overcome the fear of doing something stupid.

    Leslie,

In response to “Live within your means” you say:

I think about an ancient story of a man named Nephi and how he was directed by the divine inner voice to kill his enemy in order to preserve his family, even though it ran counter to everything he had ever been taught. If ever we break a “rule”, we just need to be sure we’re listening to the right voice. …

I just want to point out that Nephi never broke any rule; he complied fully with the statutes of the Law of Moses to which he was subject (but is since superseded). The law states (ref. King James version of the Bible, Exodus 21:12-13) that, “He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death. And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then [God] will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.”

In the account, as Nephi “…was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do…I was constrained by the Spirit that I should kill Laban; but I said in my heart: Never at any time have I shed the blood of man. And I shrunk and would that I might not slay him. And the Spirit said unto me again: Behold the Lord hath delivered him into thy hands. …Therefore I did obey the voice of the Spirit…”

Consider the goal, law and the path.
    Nephi’s:
Goal – preserve his family in righteousness.
Law – if you kill you die; if God delivers enemy to you and directs their destruction then you will be given direction to a place of refuge.
Path – remove enemy and depart with family to refuge with laws in hand.
Consequence – freedom to thrive and prosper without persecution and pursuit by enemies.

As Nephi did not seek to kill Laban but the Lord delivered Laban into Nephi’s hand and then appointed a place for Nephi to flee (in this case not one of the three cities of refuge (Deuteronomy 19) but the Americas) we see the exact obedience of Nephi; he complied with all conditions of the statute.

As I pointed out, Nephi was subject to the law of Moses. We in this age cannot use this law; it is superseded and does not apply to us. We must be exactly obedient to the rules and statutes to which we are subject to gain our prosperity.

The last part of what you said seems to sum it up well:

…we just need to be sure we’re listening to the right voice. We’re all entitled to that nudging, “inner voice” – and following it will always lead to a feeling of peace and assurance that you’re on the right track… even if your subconscious programming screams otherwise.

  2. Coping With Grief

Stay awake in your dream long enough to interpret it

How awake are you in your dream state? What are your dreams and aspiration? Can you stay awake long enough to find out. Most of us go about our lives oblivious to exactly what our purpose is and why we are here on this earth.

When we die, people will say so many wonderful things about us because they are true or just to please our grieving families. The accolades that accompany the threshold of life is being presented as a home-going gift to someone who is not able to hear them and if they could hear would probably wish they had done more with their lives. Will that be you?

When you go to bed at nights, you take along with you all the thoughts that you had for that day and all the feelings that go along with them. These sometimes come in form of dreams that can become quite overwhelming if your thoughts had been sporadic that day. You may notice that you may jump from one dream to the next in a matter of minutes or even seconds. During your dream state, you have feelings and emotions that are similar in your awakened state even though the dreams are only illusions. When you finally awake, you have to think carefully if the dream had been real or not.

The same thing applies to thoughts. They evoke feelings in you and are most prominent in your awakened state. It is these feelings that create your world. Therefore, since your thoughts go to bed with you, how can you find a way to let your awakened state take over?

Well, the solution is to make sure you have control over your thoughts and you can certainly have control. This is where your power lies. All negative thoughts can be replaced with positive thoughts while you are in your awakened state. During the day, your thoughts dictate the physical actions that you will take. At night, those same thoughts if not resolved or put away, take over your sleep state and create more of what you don’t want. They take you places that you wish you did not have to go.

Have you ever been in a dream state where you are running from someone and you are fearful for your life? I bet everyone has had those dreams. In your awakened state, you have interpreted that your life is in danger or you may have thought that you don’t want your life to be in danger and this is manifested in your dream state. This may not necessarily be physical danger, but possible a decision that is very difficult to make where you have to come out of your comfort zone. If you have not come to a resolution (or interpretation) during your awakened state of what you want to do, then it will appear again very forcibly in your dream state as something you are trying to evade or run away from.

Your thoughts need to be very decisive, positive, and creatively focused. You must think intentionally on the things that you want to manifest in your awakened state. This is the place of manifestation where dreams and visions happen; not as illusions, but as physical experiences that bring happiness and joy.
