Like the waves of the ocean moving up and down, the Law of Rhythm affects our life. The Law of Rhythm states: “When you feel down be grateful knowing that (by law) there is an upswing coming.” The Law of Rhythm can be visualized as a wavy line rolling up and down. The reason why it is so important to understand and remember this law is so that the times you are feeling down, you will know that soon there will be an upswing. That may not seem as positive as you would like, but if you picture your wavy line, imagine it angling upward instead of horizontal. What that means is that even though you may experience some down times, they will never be as low as they were before. You will be moving higher and higher-growing and gaining. This law has had a great effect in my life.
My husband is in the construction industry. We have learned from over 22 years in business that there are just some months slower than others. You could almost see a pattern if you looked at it monthly and yearly. As long as the business is continuing to grow, you could imagine the wavy line angling upward if you were looking at a business chart. This trend has carried on for years.
As most of you know, there has been a change in the market this last year. Home sales have dropped, construction is down, and fear is rippling through the economy. We have seen foreclosures, bankruptcies, and layoffs. Under these circumstances, it is easy to get caught up in the fear of having “no work.” Fear is often the first feeling we get and it can cause panic, anxiety, and depression. (I’ve been there and done that before.)
About a week before Christmas this last year, my husband came home and said, “For the first time since we have opened our doors, I have no orders in the order box.” If this had happened when I had not learned these laws, then I would have been in the fear/panic/depression mode. I would have taken back all our Christmas and sulked. But immediately into my heart came peace and a picture of a wavy line. I knew this was one of those “lows”-lower than it had been at work-but this time I believed in the upswing. I knew that work would come, but could we survive the “low?”
It was then that I saw miracles happen. In my prayers I made sure that I expressed a deep and sincere gratitude for this business and all it had done for us over the years. I expressed gratitude for the good employees we had and for a prosperous and abundant business. A short time later, I was talking to my husband on the phone. He said he needed to go because someone had lost their load in the road. He needed to pull over to help them. As he got out of his truck, he realized it was a man who had stopped and helped an employee of his several years ago when he had lost a load of counter tops out of the back of his truck. My husband had always been looking for a way to pay him back and here was his opportunity. Although the load was about taken care of by the time my husband got turned around and parked to help, he still wanted to thank the man for his service years prior. As my husband walked up, the gentleman said, “Oh, I am so glad you stopped. I have some plans in my truck for you to bid that I needed to give to you.” I could not believe it. Tears began to well up in my eyes as I realized how blessed we had been to be given work. Here was my husband thinking he could finally “get even,” and he was being blessed with more. We had a couple more experiences like that that enabled us to make it through the “low times.” We had the work we needed to keep the business sustained. We did not have to lay off any employees. We now have more work and feel so very blessed as many are still struggling with the effects of the economy. How grateful I am for the Law of Rhythm to know that things will always look up!
