Expect Life To Go Up

By Doug Lange

Oftentimes our lives feel like a yo-yo. When we are up, we eventually have to go down. When we are down, we hope to go up. Or rather, when we are up, we can expect to go down, and when we are down, we can expect to go up.

The Law of Rhythm states that our lives are cyclical and have a rhythm to them. When we are having a bad day, we can look forward to the good one that is just around the corner. When we are having a bad month or year, we can look forward to a better one coming. And, they always do.

Our lives are just like nature and the movement of planets. They all have their swings, their movement and patterns they follow. Our personal lives are the same way. We have patterns, swings and movement. This helps when we are going through difficult times. These difficult times have to end and we can look forward to and even expect better times to follow. We don’t know how long these swings will last, but they all end and change is inevitable.

My wife and I went through two-and-a-half years of unemployment. We knew that it wasn’t going to last forever and that better times would follow. We didn’t expect the unemployment to last as long as it did, but even that was for a reason. We learned and grew so much during that time. It was very difficult, but it was also one of the best experiences of our lives. We have experienced an up now that we are out of our unemployment challenge, but our up was not like we had expected. We moved up from unemployed to under-employed. And, we are very grateful for what we have.

Interestingly enough, our under-employed situation is now a down for us instead of the up that it was. We are expecting to go up even more from here because we are not satisfied with where we are. What I have learned from my own experiences is that when we are up we don’t necessarily have to literally experience a down, because our up becomes dissatisfying to us and we desire to progress even further from where we are. And, because of the Law of Polarity, even when we experience a down, we know that there is good in the down and our down really isn’t a down because we are seeing the good in it. This brings comfort during those up times. We know that we don’t have to experience the down by looking for the good in it.

I am one who likes change. I don’t like standing in line for seconds when it comes to going through difficult times in our lives, but the rhythm of change, of ups and downs, actually helps us to feel better about life. Life is more exciting for me when I have the ups and downs, the highs and lows. If I didn’t have them, I think I would be bored.

I have learned through my own experiences to look for the highs when I am going through a low. I have also learned that my highs can actually become a low for me because I am no longer happy in that state, and I start looking for another upswing.

Life is all good, if we have eyes to see and a mind that can understand.
