Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to achieve your goals without relying on credit? There may be appropriate uses for it, but what if your objective could be achieved through another, unexpected way?
It begins with believing it’s possible.
(As you read the following, see if you identify any of the elements mentioned in the Mechanics of a Miracle webinar.)
From a Miracles Made Simple student:
Hi Leslie,
…I’m on pace with the course, and I’ve been pondering all the things. :). Over the break, I started thinking about how I have relied too much on credit and wanted to test the principles without relying on credit. It’s been a tool I’ve been able to use to fix the things that needed to be fixed on my house so we could move in. I’ve created a spreadsheet titled “All This or Something Better” with the columns you suggested for the journal. I wrote down that I would like to have $1000 for Christmas to be able to fund the dinner, activities, and gifts for my family, dated 12/15/24, and didn’t think any more about it.
The next day, on 12/16, I received a knock at my door, and someone from my ward told me she was on the compassionate services committee and was dropping off gifts from the ward to a few people and handed me a small gift bag. We chatted for a second, I thanked her and shut the door. Inside the gift bag was $100 in Amazon gift cards from the ward to use toward Christmas. Awesome! I knew the rest would come somehow.
A few days went by, and I was looking over the list on my spreadsheet I said a prayer, letting Heavenly Father know how thankful I was for the $100 in gift cards and that I wanted to test the principles and see His hand in my life – I really needed that with my current circumstances. I mentioned the dollar amount listed, and if He didn’t think that I needed that much, I would accept it, and that it was more about knowing He is aware of me and that I can trust He will provide (there is a lot to that, that I will explain later. I started to write something down over the break, but it’s way too long to share here.).
I felt what it would feel like to receive what I was asking for, feeling grateful for whatever was provided and excited that it was so much better than I had anticipated (regardless of the dollar amount). I wrote down and thanked Heavenly Father for this amazing blessing and for showing me His hand in my life.
The next day, on 12/20, I received a text from my mom asking if I needed any money for Christmas. I hadn’t mentioned anything to anyone about my needs or wants for Christmas. I simply told her anything would help. I went on with my day, and around 5:00 pm, I noticed that she had sent me $600 via Venmo. I said a prayer of gratitude for what I had received with faith the rest would come and what that felt like, that it was something better than what I had asked for, even if it wasn’t the full amount. I felt excited to be able to start shopping for my kid’s Christmas gifts; I hadn’t really purchased much yet, and luckily for me, we weren’t doing our full Christmas celebration until New Year’s Day because two of my kids weren’t going to be able to make it on Christmas Day. I
About 45min – an hour later, someone rang my doorbell. I have a video doorbell, and I tried to see who it was, but they were too fast and strategic. A bag of candy with an envelope had been left on my porch. The envelope had a note in it thanking me for allowing them to be the hands of the Lord, and it contained the exact dollar amount I had written down: 1/2 in cash and 1/2 in a gift card!! Not only had I received what I asked for. I received $700 more! It was something better! It also paid for a folding table and chairs I had already purchased, so we had a table to eat dinner and play games at (I don’t have a traditional dining room table or chairs yet), the few gifts I had already purchased, supplies to make Christmas dinner, a couple of new games, and a family activity we have next month.
Another thing that happened is that I have been dealing with a medical issue most of my life, but it has become significantly worse in the last 6 months. I made an appointment with the specialist, but I wasn’t going to be able to get in for about 6 weeks, which was disappointing but fine! I felt grateful I was already an established patient, and the wait wouldn’t be any longer. On 12/26, I wrote down that I would like for this issue to be cured and took a few seconds to feel the relief of having my body work properly, visualize what that would look like fixed, and then went on with my day. Ten minutes later, I received a text that there was a cancellation for an appointment for 01/06/25, which was exactly a month earlier than the appointment I had made just a day or two before. I was able to snatch that appointment up immediately and see the specialist on Monday. There is hope, and we are working more aggressively towards a solution!
As things have been resolved, I have been moving them from my long list of wants/needs to another sheet of completed or answered prayers so they are easy to see and reflect on.
That’s my report for the last two weeks. :). I hope you had a joyful holiday season!
Thank you so much for being a blessing in my life and the hands of the Lord in my life and in the lives of so many through generously using your time and talents. Your work is meaningful and so important! I’m looking forward to continually learning from you and learning from everyone in the class.
Sincerely, SM
