The Law of Polarity states that everything of consequence has an opposite.

“For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one” (1 Nephi 2:11)

Have you ever pushed someone on a swing set? Or, do you enjoy swinging yourself? Have you noticed, if you only go down a little bit then you will only go up a little bit? Or, if someone pushes you softly, then there isn’t much movement, right? Likewise, if there is a hard downward push (or fall) then, by default the upward motion will be much higher! The whole experience is exhilarating isn’t it? There isn’t fear of the fall because we know, by law, after the fall we will rise up! Both the downward AND upward movement are part of the fun of the ride!

You might say, “But I seem to always be falling. There is no upward swing! Only heartache and uncertainty.” To this I reply - EXACTLY! That part of our existence is required! There is no possibility for the upward motion, without the falling FIRST! As Leslie Householder states in her book, “Hidden Treasures, Heaven’s Astonishing Help With Your Money Matters”,

“When you experience a ‘bad’ situation, then this Law of Polarity assures you that there is, within it, something good. If something is a little bit bad, then it is only a little bit good. If something is catastrophic, then you can be sure there is within it something phenomenal! Opposite. Equal and opposite.”

Picture holding a bouncy ball in your hand. What color is it? How big is it? Is it going to bounce really high? Now, imagine yourself dropping that ball to the ground. If you held your hand out and dropped it, then it probably came right back up to your hand….maybe a little higher. If you decided to give it some force, and really put some effort into dropping that bouncy ball then it probably shot right back up with some speed! Am I right? YES! BECAUSE OF THE LAW OF POLARITY! By LAW without down, we wouldn’t have up. Without black there would be no white. With yes, there is no. Light and dark. Soft and hard. Love and hate. Without one the other is meaningless.

So take heart! If you are in a downward swing, the upward motion IS coming! If you are up, be grateful! Maybe soon, or not so soon, there will be a down. The Law of Polarity is just that….a LAW. Have confidence knowing your belief and perseverance WILL pay off! After a trial of our faith THEN will our desired results come to pass.

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience” (James 1:2-3)
