The Law of Polarity in Action

guest posts law of polarity overcoming adversity Jul 17, 2008

A few weeks ago, my seven-year-old son was playing in a championship baseball tournament. The final game ended at 10:30pm. It was late for us, everyone was tired and we had an hour drive ahead of us.

About halfway home, I was stopped at a light. When the light turned green, I began to accelerate, but something with the car seemed wrong. There was a gas station ahead so I pulled in. It was closed, but there was plenty of light. I got out and found I had a FLAT tire.

11:00 at night, sleeping children and a flat tire.

I just want to take a moment to explain what the Law of Polarity states...

Everything has an opposite. A bad situation is equally good. Look for the good, and more good will be on its way.

Or, how I like to put it, situations just are. I can choose to label them good or bad. Looking for the good will always bring peace.

Back to the story...A year ago, my response to this kind of situation would be instant anger and frustration. Why now!? Why did this happen to me!? I would probably have banged my fist on the steering wheel and yelled out in frustration (and probably pain), waking up my children which would make them cranky, and proceeded to fight with changing a tire. Inevitably, it would be a horrible experience and take longer than necessary.

However, I've learned how the Law of Polarity works and been doing my best to apply my understanding of it to situations in my life. The most wonderful thing happened this night! I instantly felt peaceful about the flat tire situation and proceeded to calmly go about handling it. After about 2 or 3 minutes, a very nice couple stopped and helped me change the tire. Everything that was needed was available and it only took about 10 or 15 minutes to change.

The rest of the way home I pondered my reaction to the flat tire and how it was such a different reaction than what I used to have. I was amazed at how easily and naturally I felt at peace about it. I made sure I said an extra special 'thank you' in my prayers that night to ALL who were involved.

A great way to practice the Law of Polarity is to start noticing the good things in your life. Part of the Law that I briefly mentioned is gratitude. Take 10 minutes at the beginning and the end of each day to think about the good things that happened and express gratitude for them. Another thing I try to do is say a quiet thank you whenever I notice something good. Don't you like it when someone tells you, "Thank you!"? Doesn't it make you want to do more for that person? Same goes with the universe.
