I have been studying the Laws of Thought (or Laws of the Universe or Law of Attraction) for a while now. As I look back on my life, I can now see where I have experienced following the Laws even though I didn't know what they were formally. I'd like to share one experience that followed the Law of Perpetual Transmutation.

The Law of Perpetual Transmutation states that:

Circumstances and things are perpetually coming or going according to your thoughts.

A few years ago I decided that it was time for this stay-at-home mom to start using my talents and skills to help with our family's finances. I wanted to do something from home, however, so that I could continue to be here for my children. I had no idea where to even begin to look for a job that would allow me to do something from home. I had heard of people working from home, but I live in a small town in the rural Mid-west. Something like that couldn't possibly exist around here.

Every day I would think about wanting to work and wanting to do it from home. I finally worked myself into a feeling of desperation. I wanted so badly to work from home. I felt that the only option I had was to pray. So, I knelt down and just began to pour out my heart to God. "Please help me find a job where I can work from home. I can do things with the computer. I can make simple things by hand. I can do bookkeeping...." I just talked about all the skills and talents that I thought I had. I also told him my parameters, "I have to be able to work from home. It has to be flexible so that I can be there for my kids and their activities..."

OK. If I am meant to have this 'perfect' job then God's going to have to make it work. That's where I left it.

About a month later, I was in charge of a booth at our local chili cook-off competition. I was talking to someone else who had also volunteered to help with the project. At the end of our conversation he asked if I was looking for a job. I said I was but it had to be something that I could do from home and be flexible enough to keep my kids as a priority. I took the job and worked with him for about 2 years!

During the second year, I began working closely with the owners (and employers). I didn't really like how they operated and soon began to not enjoy my job. I liked the money I made and the flexibility I had, but the people weren't the kind I really felt I could continue to work with. At the end of the second year, we all agreed not to continue my contract.

So, I went from having my goal of a job coming into my life according to my thoughts (and prayer) to having that same job going because of other thoughts. One lesson I learned from this is that I should have thought about a job that I could work from home, was flexible and I could work with people who uplifted and supported me. At least now I know what to request in the future!
