The Law of Gestation in Action

guest posts law of gestation overcoming adversity Jul 17, 2008

The Law of Gestation states:

Everything has a "clock" or season by which it grows. ie. Human babies take 9 months, an oak tree takes years to even become a seedling, corn is planted in the spring and harvested in the fall, etc. Same is true for ideas and desires.

When I found out that I was pregnant with my youngest child, we were already living paycheck to paycheck and making it by the skin of our teeth. I was very careful with how we spent our money. I knew that we would not be able to financially handle another child.

So, I knelt and prayed.

I explained to God our situation (as if He didn't already know, but I wanted to make sure I knew He knew). Then, I got bold. I told Him that I am willing to bring another child into this world, but He's going to have to help us. I wanted my husband to get another job that would increase his income in order for us to pay for the added expenses we would be taking on. I told Him that we needed a van so that we could fit everyone in it. I also told Him that we needed a second car.

Well, a month later, my husband lost his job. Within 4 months, he had become very sick and the doctor's had no idea what was wrong. The air conditioning in our only car died (right before summer and greatly reducing it's resale value). And in the mean time I'm getting bigger and bigger with child.

During this whole experience, however, we felt completely at peace. We just KNEW that things were going to be fine. We always had enough money for the things we needed and the bills were paid. We experienced the blessings of others sharing with us. We grew closer as a family.

In nine months, we had a beautiful and healthy little girl. Shortly after that my husband got a very good job that paid more than we had hoped for and his health returned steadily. We also found a van for our family and a truck for my husband. We even sold our car to a mechanic who knew how to fix the problem on the car so he still gave us a good price for it.

The one thing that I do wish that I had understood before this all happened is to be more specific. I asked for a better job, but I didn't ask for us to find it quickly and that the transition would be easy. I also think it took longer because I was worried about HOW it would happen, or more so, how I didn't want it to happen.

Know what you want, ask for it, believe you can have it and don't worry about how it will happen. Just trust that God (or the Universe) wants to bless you and give you the desires of your heart. But remember, everything has a gestation period. Somethings will happen quickly and others will take longer. Just remember to keep believing until you see it happen.
