Prosperity: It's a Language Thing

Learning to use the Rare Faith principles for a better life is like learning an entirely new language.

At first, you're going to make some mistakes. That’s totally normal. I’ve had my fair share of them too. There have been times when I thought I was communicating my desires in a goal statement very clearly, but instead, I ended up with results I never intended.

And you know what? That’s okay! It’s all part of the learning process. Let me help you see it from a different angle:

Imagine going to a Spanish-speaking country with only a basic understanding of the language and a translation book to guide you. (By “basic,” I mean knowing words like “burrito,” “enchilada,” “hola,” “uno, dos, tres,” “Taco Bell”… you get the idea.)

So, you get into a taxi, open your book, and try to tell the driver, “I want to go to a quiet, beautiful place where I can feel the Spirit of God.” Word by word, you search the book and say, “Deseo ir en alguna parte tranquilidad y hermoso donde puedo sentir el alcohol del dios.”

You say it clearly and confidently, thinking you’ve communicated exactly what you meant.

What you didn’t know was that the driver, a native speaker, hears, “Desire to go beautiful tranquility somewhere and where I can feel the alcohol of the God.”

Now, let me ask you: Where do you think he’ll take you?

When you end up at a saloon instead of a peaceful botanical garden or church, you might throw your Spanish book away and think, “This language doesn’t work!!!”

(Pause and think for a moment…)

Have you ever met someone who discovered the language of prosperity through The Secret or other books and tools, tried using it, and then gave up because “it” didn’t work?

Maybe you’ve even thought about throwing it all away yourself.

Here’s the truth: The language of faith and prosperity is exactly that—a language of the Spirit. It takes time to become fluent. It takes practice to understand how thinking, feeling, and acting in this new way truly work.

When things don’t go as planned, accept the results and learn from them. Every challenge holds a lesson that can bring you closer to your goal next time.

Don’t throw away the principles you know deep down are true just because things didn’t turn out as expected. If you end up at a saloon instead of a beautiful garden, it’s not because the “language” didn’t work. It actually works perfectly. You just missed one crucial word, substituting “Holy Spirit” with the Spanish word for “spirits” (alcohol).

The words we choose when setting goals make a big difference in the final outcome.

Let me give you an example. For a long time, I had a goal statement that said, “Money comes to me frequently and easily from multiple sources in increasing quantities on a continual basis. People want my products; God helps his children through me.”

After a year of this, I realized that “People want my products” was exactly what I was getting—thousands of people wanted my products—but that wasn’t translating into revenue.

That’s when I updated my statement to more accurately reflect my true desire: “People BUY my products; God helps his children through me.”

Do you see the difference? One word made a huge impact.

It’s a language thing.

We communicate our desires and receive what we ask for. “Ask, and ye shall receive” is a true principle. But the language of faith we’re learning comes from a foreign culture, a way of life that maybe we remember from somewhere long ago, but has been temporarily forgotten here in this mortal world.

And remember, in God’s culture, when someone asks Him for more faith, He doesn’t just hand them faith; He gives them opportunities to exercise it. When we ask for financial freedom, He doesn’t give us piles of cash; He provides opportunities to develop multiple streams of income. When we ask for strength, we’re given challenges where we can grow the very strength we asked for. (The movie Evan Almighty beautifully illustrates this point—I highly recommend watching it.)

The bottom line is this: The more fluent we become in God’s language of faith, the more smoothly and peacefully we’ll move toward accomplishing everything we truly desire.

(On a side note: I was so excited to release the free Spanish Jackrabbit Factor ebook that, even though the book was professionally translated, I took it upon myself to translate the webpage using an online tool. The results were pretty comical, and the page was re-translated professionally within a day or two.)
