Small Goals, Big Transformations
Aug 19, 2024
Meet Tiffany Carman, Mindset Mastery Graduate. Tiffany also recently completed the year-long coaching program with Leslie, Achieving The Impossible. Her experiences, from whimsical inconsequential goals to creating meaningful moments with her family, reveal how mindset principles can enrich our lives in both surprising and profound ways.
Starting out Small
Tiffany’s Phase 1 experiment involved three unconventional goals: spotting mule deer, encountering Mary Magdalene, and seeing mermaids. Anticipating that seeing a mule deer in Utah would be easy, Tiffany expected that the other two would take longer.
This is how she described her experience with the three goals:
“In my journal I recorded (in advance) [that] on November 12th that mule deer were walking on the back mountain. The next morning, on the 12th, my son sent a video of mule deer that were in our driveway when he was leaving for work. On November 22nd, two mule deer jumped out in front of me leaving Walgreens after picking up my prescription. They followed me down from the mountain and into the city!
I had a dream on Nov 13th and saw a woman who was wearing Mary Magdalene earrings. I went to lunch with a friend on Nov 15th and had a discussion about Mary Magdalene and how we, as women, can be more balanced in our masculine & feminine energy...on my way to this lunch two mule deer were hanging out in the church parking lot as I pulled out of my neighborhood.
On November 27th, my son's wrestling coach came to the house to give my son an extra lesson. He brought his daughter who was wearing mermaid pajamas! On Dec 8th I turned on the TV and the movie Mermaids was on.”
These experiences highlight how seemingly inconsequential goals can reveal profound connections and Divine timing, showing that our efforts to recognize and seek small signs of guidance can lead to unexpected and meaningful results.
Creating Meaningful Moments
For her Phase 2 goal, Tiffany aimed to have a meaningful experience with her husband and two of her sons during a wrestling event in Reno, Nevada. She explained:
“This may not sound difficult, but I am an all boy mom, and sometimes I look back and feel like our lives were consumed by sports. Now that I only have one son at home, I really want to be more intentional about having important conversations when we can actually be together.”
Despite the noisy environment, she was determined to create special moments. She reflected,
“After an evening out at dinner that ended up being loud and didn't have the connection I was hoping for I went on a walk by myself through the casino. I happened to pass a huge fountain in the El Dorado of what looked like a mermaid (inconsequential goal from earlier). I noticed and kept my faith.”
Having our moments of disappointment are normal, and sometimes our faith and hope can be renewed by simple messages, such as the timely appearance of a previously-set inconsequential goal.
Choosing to keep her faith, Tiffany ultimately experienced all the moments she was hoping for. She shared:
“My husband and I enjoyed a meaningful Saturday evening ALONE without any children.
My high schooler and I ended up having a great, meaningful conversation over chinese food in a "quieter" cafe.
As the weekend came to a close, I did start to feel like I wouldn't get that time with my 19 year old. On the drive home, everyone in the car fell asleep…except him and I. It was after midnight, I was driving (which is weird because my husband always drives, but wasn't feeling well). It was dark and freezing, BUT we ended up having such a deep conversation about how he was doing at school, the gospel and what it means to him at this stage in his life, his role as a man in the world today, and how confusing it is stepping into that sometimes when the world shouts such opposite messages. He shared with me what his next goals and dreams are in his life...it was truly amazing.”
Overcoming Fear and Embracing Growth
Tiffany’s journey also included facing her fears, particularly in pursuing her business aspirations. She found that by applying the same principles applied to achieving goals would also help in managing her fears.
She wrote,
“Breaking down my goals into bite sized pieces has helped me do the same with my fear.”
By breaking her goals into manageable pieces and leaning into her fears, she successfully navigated the terror barrier related to joining a mentorship program.
“I began reaching out to different groups in the business I would like to start, to see who would be a good fit for me at this time. I found a group after a few weeks of speaking with different programs. I leaned into that terror barrier and paid the fee for a mentorship in wholesaling homes.”
When it comes to facing your fears, Tiffany had this advice to offer:
“If you know what your goal is and an opportunity comes your way to accomplish it…and it makes sense physically and spiritually, BUT you are still terrified...lean into that terror barrier. What you want is on the other side of that fear.”
Tiffany’s journey through Mindset Mastery demonstrates the beauty of seeing Divine influence in everyday life, and how even the simplest goals can lead to profound insights and affirmations. Her story reminds us that by setting our intentions with faith and openness, we create space for God’s guidance to manifest in unexpected and meaningful ways, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary ones.
