My Secret Dream
May 20, 2021
Nearly thirty years ago, I caught sight of a rabbit—and it led me to do some pretty wild things. I spent grocery money on seminars, sought counsel from mentors in the middle of the night, and sometimes went days without stopping for a proper meal.
What could possibly make me behave like that?
A mansion? A Mercedes? A diamond ring? A trip to the Maldives?
Nope. My dream was simple: I just wanted the luxury of time. Time to get my house in order. To feel the joy of homemaking. To mother. To "wife." To keep my family running smoothly—without the constant cloud of money stress.
That’s what drove me. I didn’t want extravagant wealth. I wanted the money problem gone so I could focus on my family.
Ever since I was a little girl, I looked forward to that life: the house, the husband, the children. But the dream in my mind never included overdue bills or sleepless nights filled with financial worry. So when my husband and I became parents and money stress took center stage, I realized that even though I had technically achieved the “wife and mother” part, the dream wasn’t fully complete. Not until I could peacefully clean the house, read with my kids, and move through my day without money anxiety hanging over me. And even in the years when my husband’s job paid well, I couldn’t stop worrying about the long-term.
But after seven years of chasing that rabbit, I finally reached it. I had the chance to slow down and put my house in order.
Only… I didn’t stop to enjoy it the way I thought I would.
Because the moment I caught that rabbit, something inside me shifted.
Suddenly, I was filled with a passion to help others find their breakthrough too. So once again, the dream of an orderly home had to wait.
I could see the faces of people who longed for the same kind of peace I had worked so hard to create, and I realized I had something valuable to share—something that could truly help. And just like that, a new rabbit appeared on the horizon.
Chasing this new rabbit meant spending thousands (over $100,000, actually) on advanced seminars and business training. It meant late nights, skipped meals, and endless hours hunched over a computer—tearfully learning web development, writing books, and creating content. It meant reaching out to people who intimidated me, saying no to social commitments that didn’t align, losing sleep, and lying awake with a mind that wouldn’t turn off.
And once again, I learned that before things get better, they usually get messier.
As Price Pritchett wrote in You², and I’ll paraphrase:
“In the middle of a life-saving surgery, it might look like a murder scene.”
That was me, trying to build something meaningful—something that would help others finally find financial peace. Trevan, my husband, was more available to help with the kids, but I still remember the piles of laundry, sticky floors, and rooms where you couldn’t even see the carpet. So now, when I get to slow down, enjoy my kids, and clean my home, I do it with profound joy.
Back then, spending an hour reading with my kids before bed felt like living the dream. Staying caught up on laundry felt like a miracle. It was an honor to vacuum the floor or discuss the French Revolution with my fifteen-year-old.
Even now, I still find so much joy in organizing the pantry, decluttering drawers, folding towels, and seeing the counters wiped clean. It’s therapeutic.
Yes, we’ve hired help from time to time—and it’s definitely nice to have things clean without doing it all myself. But there’s a special kind of fulfillment—a psychic income, if you will—that comes from being the one to personally create order in my home. Maybe it’s because, for so many years, I didn’t have the time even when I wanted to.
Maybe someday I’ll hand it off completely and focus solely on other meaningful work. But once in a while, I love stepping back into the dream. To live it. To love it.
So you see, your dream—whatever it may be—is yours. It doesn’t have to impress anyone else. And sometimes, one rabbit leads you to another, which takes you further than you ever imagined and brings even more joy than if you had stopped after catching the first.
Even now, our lives are busy. The laundry sometimes piles up again. Spills don’t always get cleaned up right away. But we know it’s just a season—part of chasing another rabbit.
And it’s funny to remember: the dream of slowing down to enjoy homemaking is what sparked The Jackrabbit Factor, Hidden Treasures, and everything else we now offer in the Rare Faith community.
Kind of ironic, right?
That’s why I can’t wait to hear your story—what happens when you chase your rabbits… and what happens when you finally catch them. Maybe we should start a thread in the discussion group called, “A funny thing happened on the way to my dream…”
Here’s what I know for sure: I’ve overcome a lot to get here. And the most important lessons have been lovingly preserved in the Mindset Mastery Course. Trevan and I made a promise: if we ever figured out how to get out of the mess we were in, we’d share what we learned so others wouldn’t have to suffer as long as we did.
Here’s one of the most important things I’ve learned:
Financial security doesn’t come from a giant pile of money.
It comes from knowing you can handle whatever comes your way, when it comes. That confidence is available to you now—before you earn another dime.
That’s what the 14-week Mindset Mastery program is designed to help you experience. Because once you have that peace of mind, you become open to receiving more. That’s just how it works. The right mindset tunes you into the ideas and solutions you need. And often, the answer is closer than you think. It all starts with understanding the laws of success—something we begin exploring in the Mindset Fundamentals Ecourse.
Your dream may not be to clean your house and read to your kids without feeling guilty about not earning money. But whatever it is, it’s possible—or you wouldn’t have dreamed it.
So yes—do the nutsy things your dream calls you to do.
Because when the time is right, it will pay off.
By law, it must.
And when it does, don’t be surprised if your heart calls you to bring others along with you.
It’s a great adventure. And it’s so, so worth it.
