Working with Law, Persistence Necessary?
Dec 14, 2009
My friend Marnie sent me this little gem of humor because I talk so much about the Laws of Success and how life tends to flow more smoothly when you're living in alignment with them. For instance, when you're in that success-law-abiding groove:
-
You find the perfect parking spot just when you need it.
-
The money shows up—sometimes from totally unexpected places.
-
You meet the right person at the exact right moment who has just the solution you’ve been looking for.
-
Serendipities start happening more regularly… and even predictably.
But it can also make you wonder—do the laws somehow override basic principles like good old-fashioned tenacity and persistence?
Read this next bit and decide for yourself:
After starting a new diet I altered my drive to work to avoid passing my favorite bakery.
I accidentally drove by the bakery this morning, and as I approached, there in the window were a host of goodies.
I felt this was no accident, so I prayed ... "Lord, it's up to you, if you want me to have any of those delicious goodies, create a parking place for me directly in front of the bakery."
And sure enough, on the eighth time around the block, there it was! God is so Good!
(I haven’t been able to find the original source, but I believe it came from "Maxine," a cartoon character by John Wagner of Hallmark.)
So yes—persistence might still be required! But understanding the laws can help fuel the belief and tenacity needed to keep going. Because when you know persistence will pay off, you're far more likely to hang in there long enough to see results. Without that confidence, too many of us give up just a little too soon.
This story is also a light-hearted example of how “you get what you ask for”—even when it might not be in your best interest.
So as you set your goals, take a moment to check in with your heart / gut / intuition / spiritual guidance (whatever you like to call it) and ask: Is this goal truly for my highest good? When the answer is yes, it’s so much easier to believe you’ll have God’s help in reaching it.
Without that clarity, persistence might still carry you across the finish line…
But in the end, you may just wish it hadn’t.
