Great Energy in a Down Economy is Contagious
Feb 02, 2010
My journey home from Las Vegas on Monday was one for the books—and one of the many reasons I’ll always choose Southwest Airlines when I have the option.
It’s amazing what a little positive energy from one person can do. It’s contagious—in the best way—and Southwest has absolutely mastered the art of turning a simple flight into a memorable experience.
As you watch this video, ask yourself: How do people feel when they’re around me? Lighten up and make someone’s day, just like this guy made mine. He had me grinning from takeoff to landing—and I’m still in a good mood three days later.
This kind of “going the extra mile” deserves a big, fat tip.

Here are a few of his one-liners that didn’t make it into the video but had the whole cabin laughing:
“...and if somehow this flight from Las Vegas to Phoenix becomes a cruise, your seat cushion may be used as a flotation device…”
“...and during the flight, if you don’t like our service, we have six exits located here, here, and there…”
“Okay, folks, we’re cleared for takeoff… be sure your seatbelt is securely fastened, because we’re going to go reeeeeeeally, reeeeeeeally FAST.”
